Protective Packaging Ltd exhibited at the NWPPA 2007 Utility Pole Structures Conference in Vancouver, Washington between October 10th & 11th 2007. Richard Lewis, was a speaker at the conference on the topic of Barrier Protection Systems and it was clear from an initial 'straw-poll' during the presentation that the capabilities and economies offered by Barrier Protection Systems was not well understood before the presentation. There was quite a rush of visitors to Booth 9 immediately following the speech and it was clear that the central messages of the benefits of Field Liners had been delievred successfully to the audience. Protective Packaging is of course delighted to hear from anyone interested in finding out more about how PPL Field Liners can protect your Utility Pole from decay and termite attack.

Richard Lewis of Protective Packaging Ltd attended the AWPA Fall Technical Meetings in Boise, Idaho between September 9th and September 13th 2007. During the meeting, the P20 standard for Barrier Protection Systems was approved by the Treatment Sub-Committee and is now expected to be officially and finally ratified for the 2008 Standards cycle. If you are interested in finding out more about AWPA P20 standard and how PPL Field Liners can protect your pole from decay and insect attack, please email richard@pplfieldliners.com . Welcome to the www.pplfieldliners.com BLOG ! Our objectives with this BLOG is to be able to publish news and views about the Utility Pole 'Barrier Protection System' market which is emerging in the USA and elsewhere in the World as a response to the need to make best use of a vital natural resource, wood. By prolonging the safe service life of pressure treated wood in ground contact, Barrier Protection Systems make a positive contribution to the reduction in both energy use and pollution in our environment by greatly extending the service life of a wood Utility pole, Field Liners are both a sound economic and environmental choice for the forward looking utilityu. Alternative pole materials utilise far higher amounts of energy in their production and of course are not made from renewal resources such as trees ! As preservatives migrate from pressure treated Utility Poles over time, this reduces the protection of the Utility Pole from decay and termite attack. By protecting the pole with a Barrier Protection System such as the PPL Field Liner, preservatives are retained within the pole, increasing retention and penetration levels and therefore the protection from decay and insect attack. Within our BLOG we will publish photographs and details about the tests, field trials and in service application of PPL Field Liners since inception in the late 1980's. We welcome contributions from the wood pole industry, pressure treaters, academic institutions, associations and utilities with an interest in the wood preservation and environmental issues surrounding the wood Utility Pole industry. If you would like to contribute, please request a user password to enable you to post comments. Richard Lewis July 2007
